The value of
a well crafted prototype
A completely custom prototype-- an entire fabrication of the housing, mechanisms, and electronic hardware, as well as all of the programming. While at KID Group, the author co-designed and built a single, one-off prototype to KID team specifications.
That prototype would be internally presented at Hasbro, after which the presenting Design Director of Gaming complemented that the quality of the prototype experience especially "sold it in" and really got everyone on board quickly. The above is the resulting production product.
Many concepts must survive several more rounds of review, this one got expedited straight to "GO!" A well executed prototype can make that happen. The video above is the resulting product, Bop It R2D2, named a #1 Best Seller on Amazon in kid's electronics.
